Private Residential

Copenhagen Apartment

This project involved a major renovation of an apartment in Nørrebro, with the aim of creating a home that balances function and atmosphere. The client wished for a space that feels bright, open, and easy to live in, while still reflecting the character and history of the building.

The goal was to adapt the apartment to modern family life, creating a clear flow between spaces and a natural balance between openness and privacy.

Client: Private

Location: Nørrebro, Copenhagen, DK

Year: 2021

Category: Residential

The project was developed from early design to completed home, with a focus on improving layout, flow, and everyday functionality. Open and light living areas were created to support shared family life, while more compact and intimate spaces offer calm and retreat.

“For me, this project was about creating a home that feels both open and grounded. By bringing in more light and restoring original details, the apartment now supports modern family life while keeping its character.”

- Mette Risbæk, Architect

Material choices play a central role in defining the atmosphere. Lighter surfaces are balanced with darker, natural materials such as wood and tiles, creating contrast and depth throughout the home.

At the same time, original architectural features were carefully restored and integrated into the design, allowing the history of the apartment to remain visible while supporting contemporary use.

The result is a home that feels both bright and grounded, where past and present come together in a natural and balanced way.
